| Home - Brentwood School of Music Welcome to the Brentwood School of Music. We are in our 35th year serving the Saanich Peninsula, and have students from as far away as the Gulf Islands and Colwood. We are proud to serve students of all ages, from 3 to 93, teaching all types of music from rock, jazz, popular, celtic to classical.
We are a group of professional teachers, who teach not as a second job, but as our living, and we are proud to have produced a large number of students who have entered musical professions, whether going to University and obtaining degrees in their instrument of choice, or becoming a professional touring musician, or playing with a band. Many of our vocal students carry the lead parts in the performing arts plays on the Peninsula and around Victoria. The key to this success is based on our approach to music - MUSIC IS FUN!!
Students are taught either privately or in groups, by friendly, encouraging full time teachers who excel in their area of specialty. All teachers are experienced, and we teach to the ability of each individual student, whether that means taking an instrument for fun, or beginning as an adult. We work with you to help make music study understandable and easy.
We have a large number of adult students who study music to enrich their lives and for pleasure and relaxation. Our programs for children incorporate all theory, technique, and progressive work, as well as "fun" music to encourage students to learn the important solid basis of music. We offer Royal Conservatory of Toronto preparation should the student wish, or just a solid foundation for lifelong enjoyment and appreciation of music.
We run school wide concerts at Christmas and year end, plus offer in school exams adjudicated by professional outside examiners. We recognize the importance of performance to build confidence, and not just the younger students are anxious to perform. We have adults that enjoy the challenge of performance as well! We often have adult performances amongst the adult students in a comfortable relaxed setting at the school.

| Grant Smalley's Pipe Organs Grant has had a passion for the Pipe Organ from an early age. Born in Sidney, BC, he was a choir boy at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Victoria. The sound of the organ fascinated him and he was determined to understand how it worked. After high school he was able to obtain a job with Hugo Spilker, the local organ builder. They serviced instruments with a variety actions and all manner of pipework, some quite historic. After two years, Grant went to work with Gabriel Kney in London, Ontario. The firm built new, mechanical action organs for markets in Canada and throughout the United States.
Returning to Victoria, Grant again worked with Hugo Spilker and gradually bought out his business. Most of the pipe organs on Vancouver Island have been under his care since 1984. His wife, Bev, works with him and manages the office.
We have designed and built two Continuo chest organs, small new 2 manual and pedal church organs and several 2, 3 and 4 manuals consoles. Rebuilds and additions to local instruments have been undertaken as well as restorations of historic tracker organs. http://smalley.islandnet.com/Welcome.html (1872 clicks)

| Home page | www.thewushucentre.net | Andrea Falk I play traditional bagua, xingyi, and Chen taiji, but am an unrepentant classic wushu fan. The main 'sales thing' is my translations of bagua and xingyi books from China a few videos from China on bagua and xingyi. To keep the retro wushu side of my character happy, I have brought Anthony Chan's classic Beijing Wushu Team Training Video Series back to life, and have found some great videos of classic wushu.
Since my formal education is in physical education, Chinese, and wushu, I have naturally put a lot of educational stuff on the site - an online wushu dictionary, downloads of my wushu dictionary and movement name lists, downloads of my wushu coaching materials, upcoming events in Canada, tons of photographs of athletes and masters in China (most now put into Flickr), links to Chinese martial arts sites around the world, and a list of available translated books on Chinese martial arts.
When I am away for training or teaching, I have my laptop with me and am working on translations. I may not be able to update the website when I am away, but we have a good system for sending orders out quickly, so don't worry if the website is not updated, I am still in contact. http://thewushucentre.ca (2962 clicks)

| FineasGage.com - Home Main Entry: fineas gage
Pronunciation: \fin-eee-uuuhs gage\
Function: rocking out
Etymology:
1 : If Metric, Foo Fighters, and The Mars Volta were fuelled by a caseload of Redbull, it might sound a lot like Fineas Gage. Named after the infamous railway worker, Fineas Gage brings together Victoria musicians Mariel, Tara, Junior and Brendan with a mix guaranteed to stick in your head like a railway spike.
The band recently released their debut album “Bombshelter Honeymoon” recorded in Victoria and at the Factory in Vancouver. The album features catchy pop lines and driving rock riffs with intricate bass lines, energetic drums, melodic vocals and witty lyrics. Fineas Gage has been busy following up this release with two music videos for “Can You Hear Me Now” and “Art Won’t Make You Beautiful” produced by the award winning Broken Mirror Films.
While Fineas Gage may have just released a debut album, this group of musicians is not new to the Victoria music scene. Band members achievements include international tours, showcases at NXNE, and features on Much Music’s Indy Spotlight and Going Coastal. Fineas Gage shows no signs of slowing down soon, so look out for them on tour this year.
