The English language has been derived from many languages which have never been returned to their source. Through the Middle Ages it had numerous changes due to the fact that people stayed very close to the place where they were born. Hence we have many dialects that grew up in the English countryside together with their own words and sayings. As these people were short in literacy, in both reading and the written word, writing and spelling tended to be phonic. They were lazy in the spoken word, almost a form of spoken shorthand, as an example:
Today we would ask, "May I ask where you are going to?" The question would have been. "Where be to?"
This shorthand speech can still be found in Newfoundland and the Southwest of England. The New England States of America have traces of Elizabethan English and pronunciation of that time. The same can be said of the French spoken in the province of Quebec as being of a strong Breton origin.

 | Grant Smalley's Pipe Organs
Grant has had a passion for the Pipe Organ from an early age. Born in Sidney, BC, he was a choir boy at St. Maryâs Anglican Church in Victoria. The sound of the organ fascinated him and he was determined to understand how it worked. After high school he was able to obtain a job with Hugo Spilker, the local organ builder. They serviced instruments with a variety actions and all manner of pipework, some quite historic. After two years, Grant went to work with Gabriel Kney in London, Ontario. The firm built new, mechanical action organs for markets in Canada and throughout the United States.
Returning to Victoria, Grant again worked with Hugo Spilker and gradually bought out his business. Most of the pipe organs on Vancouver Island have been under his care since 1984. His wife, Bev, works with him and manages the office.
We have designed and built two Continuo chest organs, small new 2 manual and pedal church organs and several 2, 3 and 4 manuals consoles. Rebuilds and additions to local instruments have been undertaken as well as restorations of historic tracker organs.

Dr. Vasta has a BS and MS in nursing and a PhD in clinical psychology. She is licensed both as a registered nurse and as a registered clinical counsellor in British Columbia. She received her training as a psychoanalyst in Los Angeles at the Psychoanalytic Center of California. Dr. Vasta has been a graduate psychoanalyst for more than twenty-five years and is a full member of the International Psychoanalytical Association, the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society and the Canadian Institute of Psychoanalysis. She is also a member of the Western Branch Psychoanalytic Society and is a supervising and training psychoanalyst with the Vancouver Psychoanalytic Institute. Dr. Vasta was in private practice in the Los Angeles area for 19 years and has had a private practice in Victoria for nearly 15 years.
Most of Dr. Vasta's patients come to her because they are either depressed or very anxious. Many of them have gone through painful relationships and some are going through a difficult breakup or divorce. Some of the people who see Dr. Vasta have had eating disorders or suffered sexual or physical abuse. She treats individuals that are 16 years of age or older and who want to talk and try to understand the meaning of their problems as they go about making changes in their behaviour.
Dr. Vasta uses a psychoanalytic approach in the work she does. People she treats see her from one to four times a week.
