I am a ham radio operator and a regular vlogger on the popular website YouTube. I have created this site in a effort to provide some information about what ham radio is and how it is used in communities around the world. I've also created this site to promote information about my YouTube channel, INET. I create videos for INET relating to technology and major news events. To date I've helped over 100 people with tech-related inquiries and many have become regular viewers.
In addition to my involvement in the Victoria ham radio community and YouTube activities I am an avid FTAer. I currently have a 90cm motorized dish as well as several fixed dishes which I use to watch unencrypted TV channels and feeds from around the world. I am constantly trying to promote information about the real hobby of FTA and how it is a great way to see what is happening in our world from a variety of perspectives. A passion for wood and closeness to nature gives Aivars the unique ability to see beyond the surface and find the inner beauty locked within the grain, textures and irregularities of the wood. Because of this, each piece is a work of art and no two pieces are alike. His work is known and collected around the world.
All of the wood Aivars works with is native to the Sooke area and part of the local history.
Much of this wood is considered logging waste and is destined to be burned. In his ocean side studio, he creates beautiful bowls, boxes, planters, mirrors, kitchen ware, burled furniture and carvings of the highest quality that compliment any interior setting.
All pieces are finished with non-toxic bees wax or 100% pure unrefined tung oil, to retain the natural patina and beauty of the wood.
Stop in and visit the studio located on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island. Browse the many finished pieces on display or watch the artist himself at work.(keep an eye open for the sign)

Dave Obee has compiled eight books for Canadian family historians, and has given more than 300 talks about genealogical and historical research to genealogical society meetings and conferences, libraries, and community groups. He was the president of the Federation of East European Family History Societies from 2004 to 2007, and is the federation's webmaster. He is a columnist for Canada's History Magazine, formerly known as The Beaver. Dave is also a member of the advisory panel for Ancestry.ca.
