MySQL Server Upgrade
Last Updated on Tuesday, 28 October 2014 09:40 Written by Mark Morley Hits: 5710With a dramatic increase in customers turning to Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, etc. we've seen a huge impact on the customer MySQL servers. "mysql55" and "mysql41" in particular were getting overloaded. So in the middle of the night we performed a 5 minute hardware upgrade. Specifically, we doubled the number of CPUs, and we also doubled the amount of RAM. For several of the larger/busier sites we host the improvement was very noticeable.

The percentage used doesn't mean much when it comes to the database servers. In fact, if I were to double the RAM in them that percentage would actually increase. They are configured to leave a certain number of gigabytes of RAM free for the operating system and consume the rest for MySQL. The amount reserved for the OS would not change, but the percentage of overall RAM used by MySQL would grow. Nothing to worry about.
RAM at 87% nonetheless

Server status is showing RAM at 87% nonetheless, on those two MySQL servers right now; don't you think it's time for another 5 minute RAM upgrade :-) ??

Yup. Big improvement! My readers over on DXer.ca were complaining about the forum speed - everything else is great.
Cheers!
